In this module a product chain with networked components a trolley chip is produced.

This training system shall simulate an assembly on demand process in the classroom. The customer can select on the smartphone the trolley chip he would like to get. The trolley chip will then be assembled out of four different bottom parts and four different inserts with different colours. The smartphone is linked to the PLC-program which controls the assembly station.

 

The trolley chip assembly station consists out of two rotary magazines, one for the bottom parts and one for the inserts. According to the customer selections, the rotary magazines will rotate in the required position. In the centre is the assembly module where the chips will then be pushed together.

The complete training system is made only out of 3D-printed and standard parts. It uses pneumatic cylinders, electrical motors, sensors and is controlled by a PLC-program. All 3D-models, drawings and programs can be downloaded from the EU-Internet site. This will enable every school or training facility to build it by themselves and adjust it to their requirements.

The objective of the module

The Students shall design the assembly module of the trolley chip assembly station.  
They have to manage a design process in an international team. They shall use creative design methods to come up with new solutions. They have to evaluate the different design solutions and decide which one shall be further detailed. Then they have to create 3D-CAD-models and drawings. The models shall be produced with a 3D-printer. At the end the assembly module can be assembled and tested.
The students shall also create a documentation of their design process and hold a presentation to show their results.
Target group for this module are mechatronic or design students
(EQF 4 to 5)  
Prior to this module, the student must be able to use a 3D-CAD-Software and create technical drawings.

Student Learning Module: “My personalized trolley chip”
The Omega Group will design and manufacture a trolley chip assembly station. The parts will be designed from an international team of design companies from different European countries. After the design is finalized, the parts will be printed with a 3D printer in each company. Then the printed parts will be assembled together with the purchased parts and the PLC-program will be written, implemented and tested.
The idea of the trolley chip assembly station is, that the customer can create with an app on his smart phone his personalized version of a shopping cart trolley chip. The chip will be assembled out of two components, the bottom part and the insert. The customer can select the bottom part in different colors and the insert with different colors, designs or logos.
The chip will then be assembled based on the selection the customer made in the app. With this model the Omega Group will simulate an assembly on demand process. The customer is linked with his smart phone over the internet to the assembly station in the factory and can manipulate and start the assembly process. This is a part of industry 4.0.
